The London Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to announce Nicholas Collon has been appointed Assistant Conductor for the 2011/12 season.
While assisting Vladimir Jurowski in most of next season’s Royal Festival Hall concerts, Nicholas Collon will also conduct a number of performances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. “I am absolutely thrilled to be taking up the post of Assistant Conductor to the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2011/12 season. I am particularly excited to be working closely with Vladimir Jurowski, who has already been a huge support to me, and also to working with the London Philharmonic on such a wide range of wonderful repertoire. ” says Nicholas Collon.
Nicholas Collon is quickly establishing a reputation as an inspirational interpreter in an exceptionally wide range of music. As Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of Aurora Orchestra he has promoted imaginative programming that integrates challenging repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries with works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras. At the 2011 Royal Philharmonic Society Awards held at the Dorchester earlier this month, Nicholas Collon accepted the award for Best Ensemble on behalf of Aurora Orchestra.
In addition to his work with Aurora Orchestra, Nicholas Collon is increasingly in demand as a guest conductor in the UK and abroad. In 2008 he was awarded the Arts Foundation Fellowship for conducting, having been chosen from a list of twenty nominated British conductors, and was the 2011 classical music nominee for the South Bank Sky Arts / The Times Breakthrough Award. This summer he will conduct twice at the BBC Proms, leading the Family Prom at the Royal Albert Hall and the London Sinfonietta at a Proms Saturday Matinee at Cadogan Hall.
In the 2011/2012 season, Nicholas Collon will make his debuts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony, the Northern Sinfonia, London Mozart Players and Munich Chamber Orchestra. He has worked with Glyndebourne Opera and the Opera Group, as well as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, Britten Sinfonia and Sinfonia ViVa.
